We are looking for singers of all parts who are interested in singing Gregorian chant, hymns and polyphony. All levels of musical experience are welcome, though you do need to be able to carry a tune! I (Skylar Covich) joined the choir in 2016. While most of the members today are different people than when I started, the choir has always been a very strong and welcoming community that I am proud to be a part of, and I have learned a lot about the treasury of sacred music. Because of a visual impairment, I found a way to learn Chant by ear.

If interested, email latin.mass.smm@gmail.com or the Contact form on this blog, and we can set up a meeting with the choir director, Scott Blackwood.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166064105001967137.post-47673196212102220632023-03-27T10:59:00.002-07:002023-03-27T10:59:34.470-07:00Easter Sunday mass
The Traditional Latin

The older ones are inspired by the verses of O Come O Come Emanuel. Traditionally our choir has sung selections from the O Antiphons each Sunday of Advent, before the start of mass; our arrangement is in English with 4-part harmony, from Anglican hymnity.

Wikipedia has a good article on the subject, and Father Z provides blog posts on each antiphon besides O Virgo Virginum which can help you medidate on their significance to the story of the Incarnation.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166064105001967137.post-76555437689192777772021-12-11T20:36:00.000-08:002021-12-11T20:36:26.872-08:00Latin Masses for Christmastide
The Traditional Latin Mass for Christmas Day will be celebrated at 10 AM at our usual location, St Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo. 10 AM is also the mass time on New Year's Day.

The Traditional Latin Mass also continues each Sunday at 10 AM at St Mary Magdalen Chapel.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166064105001967137.post-60036803122534438152021-12-05T22:40:00.000-08:002021-12-05T22:40:17.799-08:00Feast of the Immaculate Conception
The Traditional Latin Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 8, at 7 PM, at Saint Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo, for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166064105001967137.post-73161998165513488192021-10-31T22:18:00.002-07:002021-10-31T22:18:59.682-07:00All Saints and All Souls
We are blessed to have the Traditional Latin Mass continuing each Sunday at St Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo at 10 AM.

The Traditional Latin Mass for All Saints Day, Monday November 1, is at 7 PM at St Mary Magdalen Chapel. There is not a Traditional Latin Mass at Mary Magdalen Chapel on Tuesday, November 2, All Souls Day.

All Saints and All Souls Day are among my favorite liturgical days; All Souls Day is one of the few on which there are three separate masses traditionally celebrated according to the 1962 missal. The propers for that day are the same as in a Requiem mass, including the Dies Irae sequence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj7R9LeiJPE

The Fraternity of St Peter, which provides priests for our mass most Sundays through St Vitus Parish, http://www.fssp.la is offering a novena of masses for the intentions of souls. The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy."

In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her: "On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy ...
