Homily - Solemnity of the Holy Family - January 12, 2014
Col. 3:12-17; Lk. 2:42-52
Luke
alone gives us this episode in our Lord’s childhood, in what are otherwise the
hidden years in our Lord’s life at Nazareth.
And it gives us an incisive insight into life of the Holy Family and of
our families.
Homily - Octave of Christmas - January 1, 2014
Tit. 2:11-15; Lk. 2:21
The
readings of the Christmas season reveal to us the Person of Jesus, the Word
made flesh, God made man, all divine and yet all human. In our Epistle reading, St. Paul tells us
that the grace of God has appeared to us, our great God and our Savior Jesus
Christ. He gave Himself for us. The Christ Child born in the Bethlehem of
time is the Self-Same eternal Son of God.
Homily - Sunday within the Octave of Christmas - December 29, 2013
Gal. 4:1-7; Lk. 2:33-40
So great is
the mystery of the Lord’s birth and Incarnation, that the Church gives us an
entire season, that of Christmas-Epiphany, to reflect on its meaning. The readings today show us how the circle
widens and how completely the Lord entered into humanity.
Homily - Christmas Day - December 25, 2013
In the Mass
of Christmas midnight, the Gospel gives us the familiar and heartwarming scene
of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus in the manger.
This is the birth of Christ from Mary, His birth in time. The Gospel readings of the Christmas and
Epiphany Seasons will show us how deeply Christ entered into humanity.
Epiphany Dance - Pro-Life Fundraiser
The Epiphany Family Dance, a fundraiser for Life Centers of Ventura County, sponsored by the Latin Mass community of St. Mary Magdalen was a success! Young and old alike took part in multicultural dances with instruction. We all had a chance to try our singing voices as the three Wise Men came bearing gifts to the Christ Child in support of the unborn. We sang "We Three Kings" followed by the "Twelve Days of Christmas" where each table around the room took one of the 12 days while the children in the center of the room sang "5 golden rings". Everyone enjoyed plentiful refreshments. The Life centers benefited by cash donations and gifts of baby necessities. Thanks to all the volunteers who decorated the hall and thoroughly cleaned it before leaving!

Introit (Isaiah 9: 6)
Puer natus est nobis, et filius datus est nobis: cujus imperium super humerum ejus: et vocabitur nomen ejus magni consilii Angelus. Vs. (Ps. 97: 1) Cantate Domino canticum novum, quia mirabilia fecit. Vs. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Puer natus est nobis, et filius datus est nobis: cujus imperium super humerum ejus: et vocabitur nomen ejus magni consilii Angelus.
A child is born to us, and a Son is given to us: Whose government is upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called, the Angel of Great Counsel. Vs. (Ps. 97: 1) Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle: because He hath done wonderful things. Vs. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. A child is born to us, and a Son is given to us: Whose government is upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called, the Angel of Great Counsel.
