Dr. David Arias Joins the Faculty of the FSSP Guadalupe Seminary

Dr. David Arias, a member of the faculty of local Thomas Aquinas College since 2005, just accepted a position on the faculty of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter's Guadalupe Seminary in Denton Nebraska.    He will be teaching  seminarians the required two years of philosophy.  The seminarians progress thru 7 years of studies at the seminary before ordination.  David and Jennaya Arias along with their 11 children have attended Mass in the Extraordinary Form at Saint Mary Magdalen on occasion and have attended some of our summer time picnics in the park.  The Arias' family would be grateful for your prayers during this stressful time of job & location change.  In the midst of leaving their many California friends and packing up a household of 13 people, they are expecting their 12th child to be born in July!  May God bless David and his family as he undertakes the challenge to assist in the education of the future Priests of the Fraternity.

Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter

A note from Father Fryar...

Dear Latin Mass Community of St Mary Magdalen,

It was a joyful moment when I was asked by the Vicar of Clergy for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles if the FSSP could take over the care of the Latin Mass at St. Mary Magdalen in Camarillo. Beginning on April 3rd, the Sunday after Easter, I will be coming to celebrate the Sunday Mass most of the time. This is a big step in the direction that many of you petitioned a few years ago, of having a full FSSP parish.

While I hope to do the best I can, I cannot promise much at this stage. I am only one person and as it is I am currently doing the work of two priests in Los Angeles. I will probably not be getting an assistant priest until we have opened doors to our own church in Los Angeles, and before then I need to raise serious funds in order to purchase something. However, rather than waiting for the point in time when we have more than one priest in the Archdiocese, I will do as much as I can to make the beginnings of an FSSP Apostolate in Camarillo.

I would like to express the gratitude that all of us feel for Fr Carcerano. As a priest who has great zeal for souls, he went a long way to do everything possible to provide for the need of those souls seeking the Extraordinary Form. He has done so much in the many years that he has lead the community. There is no way that I can pretend to fill his shoes, and while I will try my best, I wish to express my respect and gratitude for all that he has done.  Please know that he will continue to say the Latin Mass in several locations in Los Angeles.

See you on Sunday!
Fr Fryar

Father Carcerano

Father Carcerano has been a tremendous blessing to our Traditional Latin Mass community over the years, beginning with his assignment as pastor at Mission San Buenaventura.  Not knowing how to say the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, he would come into the church during Mass to pray alongside us in the pews.  As his interest in this form of the Roman Rite grew, he began to study the rubrics and learned to say the Low Mass.  After a period of time, he went for training at the FSSP Guadalupe Seminary for the sung Mass (Missa Cantata).  Father always took the greatest care to follow the rubrics of the Mass.  He has blessed us with his wisdom and prudence in the confessional and when spiritual guidance was offered.  He always made himself available for confessions, baptisms and funerals.

We certainly will miss him and wish him well in his new assignments in Los Angeles.  If you wish to send him a thank-you card and/or Spiritual Bouquet, please contact:    latin.mass.smm@gmail.com with your full name & city.
