The Five First Saturdays Devotion

During her July apparition at Fatima, Our Lady said to Lucia, “I shall come to ask... that on the First Saturday of every month, Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world.” Although she made no further mention of this devotion at Fatima, on December 10, 1925, our Blessed Mother again appeared to Lucia at Pentevedra, Spain, where the seer had been sent to the Dorothean Sisters to learn to read and write. It was there Our Lady completed her request for the Five First Saturdays and gave her great promise.  Appearing with the Queen of Heaven in that apparition was the Infant Jesus, Who said to Lucia: “Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother. It is covered with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to remove them with an act of reparation.”  Our Lady then spoke: “See, my daughter, my Heart encircled by thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Do you, at least, strive to console me. Tell them that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.”     Read more...

The Seven Sorrows Devotion

The Blessed Virgin Mary grants seven graces to the souls who honor her daily by saying seven Hail Mary's and meditating on her tears and dolors (sorrows).  The devotion was passed on by St. Bridget of Sweden.

The Seven Sorrows of Our Lady
1. St. Simeon’s Prophecy
2. The Flight into Egypt
3. The Loss of Jesus in the Temple
4. The Meeting of Mary and Jesus on the Way to Calvary
5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
6. The Piercing of the Side of Jesus, and His Descent from the Cross
7. The Burial of Jesus.

Graces and promises attached to the practice of the devotion in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sorrowing:

According to St. Alphonsus de Liguori (The Glories of Mary) it was
revealed to Saint Elizabeth that at the request of Our Lady, Our Lord
promised four principal graces to those devoted to Her Sorrows:

1. That those who before death invoke the divine Mother in the
name of Her Sorrows will obtain true repentance of all their sins;
2. That He will protect all who have this devotion in their tribulations,
and will protect them especially at the hour of death;
3. That He will impress on their minds the remembrance of His
Passion;
4. That He will place such devout servants in Mother Mary’s hands
to do with them as She wishes and to obtain for them all the
graces She desires.

In addition to these four graces there are also seven promises attached
to the practice of daily praying seven Hail Mary’s while meditating on
Our Lady’s Tears and Sorrows. These seven promises were revealed to
St. Bridget of Sweden:

1. “I will grant peace to their families.”
2. “They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries.”
3. “I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them
in their work.”
4. “I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not
oppose the adorable will of My divine Son or the sanctification
of their souls.”
5. “I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal
enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.”
6. “I will visibly help them at the moment of their death — they
will see the face of their Mother.”
7. “I have obtained this grace from My divine Son, that those who
propagate this devotion to My tears and sorrows will be taken
directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their
sins will be forgiven and My Son will be their eternal consolation
and joy.”

Funeral Services for Huguette Johnson

Huguette Johnston, 71, of Ventura passed away peacefully on February 20, 2017 after a brief battle with pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis.  Huguette was very involved in the Catholic Church, going to Mass daily and was instrumental in furthering the Blue Army of Fatima and also started the Eucharistic Adoration, both at Sacred Heart Church.  She occasionally attended the Traditional Latin Mass when it was at Mission San Buenaventura and later when it moved to Saint Mary Magdalen in Camarillo.

A Rosary Service will be held Saturday, March 11th at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura followed by the Funeral Mass. Burial will be at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard immediately following the mass with a reception afterward at the family home in Ventura.

Los Angeles Sacred Music Symposium 2017

Over the past ten years, a resurgence of traditional liturgy has occurred. We’ve documented official decrees, stunning statements, and concrete statistics, but we don’t publicly share the hundreds of messages from laymen, priests, and nuns bearing witness to a breathtaking grassroots movement. The road to improvement (as you fully realize) can be arduous—but today we have fantastic news.  The Sacred Music Symposium is designed especially for (but certainly not limited to) music directors. Many participates don’t direct choirs—they just love to sing!  One emphasis is on “tricks” to implement the treasury of sacred music without becoming discouraged.
