Confessions, Rosary, Choir

When Fr. Michael Carcerano is on the schedule, he will begin to hear confessions from 9:00 a.m. as soon as the Chapel is unlocked until 9:45 a.m.

The Rosary will be prayed before each Mass starting at approximately 9:35 a.m.

Parish Directory Informational Meeting for Volunteers

The scheduling of family photographs will begin the first weekend in October after all the Masses. In order to make sure everyone knows what to do and to find out your availability, there will be an informational meeting on September 3, 2013 at 7:00 PM in classroom 8 of the St. Mary Magdalen School.  Items to be reviewed:

- Schedule for appointment sign-ups
- Dates for photography
- Assignments of duties (appointment sign-ups, host/hostess during photography shoots, etc.)
- Schedule dates and masses with each volunteer
- Procedures for making appointments
- Etc.

Local Priest Training Workshop by FSSP

Please pray for the success of this wonderful opportunity!  On short notice, there is the possibility of a local priest training class in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass (Low Mass) provided by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP).  The Fraternity will send priest-trainers from their Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska for a full five day workshop this Agust, Monday 26th through Friday 30th.  This training will provide the same course of instruction as that obtained at the workshops held at the Guadalupe seminary 

Low Mass Workshop:
• A comprehensive introduction to the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and its liturgical principles
• An overview of the 1962 Roman Missal and liturgical calendar
• A complete explanation and demonstration, with practical hands-on instruction, in the ceremony of Low Mass according to the 1962 Roman Missal
• Tips and strategies for gaining proficiency in Latin
• An introduction to Sung Mass and Gregorian Chant

The training will be hosted at the Carmelite Sacred Heart Retreat House in Alhambra, CA.  Full room & board will be provided for 5 days/4 nights.  All training & materials expenses will be covered by generous benefactors (excludes travel cost).

Feast of Saint Mary Magdalen (External Solemnity)

Sunday, July 21st will be a Sung High Mass in honor of our Chapel's patron, Saint Mary Magdalen whose feast day is on Monday, July 22nd.  Please join us in thanksgiving for her intercessions for our move from Mission San Buenaventura to the Chapel dedicated to her.  Having now been in our new home 4 months, let us continue to implore her help for the spiritual growth of our community.

Centennial of St. Mary Magdalen Chapel Cornerstone Dedication

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the dedication of the Cornerstone of St. Mary Magdalen Chapel on July 1, 1913, there will be a special Mass at the Chapel on Ventura Blvd. on Saturday July 6 at 10 am. This will be a bi-lingual Mass in English and Spanish. There will be a reception with Mariachi music after Mass in the Courtyard until 2 pm. For details, please see the Chapel Centenary website.

Ordinary Form Mass in Latin

The Adolfo Camarillo Knights of Columbus (Council #5272) are having their Installation Ceremony on Saturday 6/29 at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel on Ventura Blvd at 4:30 pm. This will be immediately followed by a special Ordinary Form Mass in Latin at 5:15. Fr. Cornelius Buckley, S.J. of Thomas Aquinas College will be the celebrant and the Traditional Latin Mass Choir of St. Mary Magdalen will be the Schola. This is the anticipated Mass for the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time, and thus fulfills the Sunday Obligation. William V. Maddux - 1/31/28-6/21/13

William came into this world at the Old Soldiers Home in Leavenworth, Kansas, delivered by the hands of his grandfather, Dr. Frank G. Ellis.  He grew up in Monterey Park, California, and was a long time member of St. Stephen’s Parish, where he went to grammar school and served at Mass for several years.  William served in the Army from March 1946 until March 1947 at Fort Bliss, Texas, being discharged due to the end of the war. William met Catherine Cahill in St Stephen’s choir about 1955 and they were married March 1958 and had three sons.  William and the family moved up to Goleta in 1971, buying a house that he would live in until his death.  Many happy years followed the move, including participating in several community organizations as well as singing in the church choir at Our Lady of Sorrows church for a number of years, where his boys helped sing in the choir and serve at the Latin Novus Ordo Mass.  During the late 80’s, a monthly TLM was offered at the Poor Clare’s chapel in Santa Barbara which he regularly attended.  In his later years, he was occasionally able to attend the TLM in Ventura, and attended the last Mass there on March 17^th.  He was very happy to be able to attend the Easter Mass at our new location at Saint Mary Magdalen Chapel, which turned out to be the last Mass he was healthy enough to attend.  William passed away in his sleep at home, June 21^st, 2013.  He is survived by his sons William, Kevin (Laurie) and Brian (Paula), and grandchildren Christopher, Kaylie, Rebeca, and Sean.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lyndall and Vincent, his sister, Betty and his wife, Catherine.  He will be greatly missed by all of us. 

Visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, June 27th at 4 PM at the Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel, 450 Ward Dr  Santa Barbara, CA 93111. 

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 28^th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1300 East Valley Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93108, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, 199 N Hope Ave, Santa Barbara, CA 93110.
